I was speaking to the legendary Mick (banjo) O’Connor yesterday – fame on the big screen came to him in 2006 when he appeared in the film ‘SixtySix’ playing Irish music at a barmitzvah. The film is on ITV tonight (Thurs) 10.35pm – 12.20am, he tells me he’s only in it for a minute and a half or so, but if you’re in and fancy a bit of ‘Mick-spotting’ this evening … enjoy!
Sixty Six
ITV1
Comic drama about the agony of a young Jewish boy whose bar mitzvah is scheduled for the day of the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley. Bernie Rubens has been gleefully looking forward to the big day throughout his childhood, but when England book their place in the final against West Germany, will his friends and family be able to resist World Cup fever and make it to the celebration?

Musical Tribute to Paddy Gallagher
and 12th Return to Camden Town Festival
Date for the diary: Friday 16th July – ‘A Musical Tribute to Paddy Gallagher’ at the London Irish Centre, 50 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB. The concert will include music from Andy Martyn and Adrian Bourke (Slip Jigolos), Kevin Boyle (Le Cheile), The Long Notes, The London Lasses and Pete Quinn, Gary Connolly, Brian Rooney, James Carty and more. Whilst playing at a gig last September, Paddy suffered a haemorrhage to the brain which has resulted in neurological impairments affecting his mobility and speech. Not one to be held down, Paddy is fighting back and has already made real progress. His sense of humour is alive and well and he still enjoys regular laughs with his family and friends. Guitarist and singer, Paddy Gallagher has been a central figure and a popular personality in the London Irish music community over the last three decades – we know that many of you will be keen to support this event for Paddy. Tickets are now available at the following link: http://www.iristickets.co.uk/portal/event/17518
Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th October 2010: Concerts, sessions, music and song workshops
and
Friday 29th – Sunday 31st October 2010 – Set Dancing, Céilís and dance workshops
London Irish Centre, 50 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB
This year sees a changed format for Return to Camden Town Festival, with music and song events more concentrated over one long weekend and dance events on a separate weekend. There will be more daytime as well as evening performances at the London Irish Centre on the music weekend as well as sessions and workshops – all corners of the venue will be a hive of activity from morning ‘til night. The Festival will continue to host some events in other offsite venues in Camden, enabling us to take the Festival into the early hours. So if you’re a concert going dancer, this year you don’t have to be torn between events – the Festival will host a separate weekend of dancing with the usual highest standard quality music and teaching. If you’re just mad for the music, block out Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th October 2010 in your diary, it’s going to be a mighty weekend in London!
Artists confirmed so far include: Matt Molloy, John Carty and Arty McGlynn/ The Old De Danann (Alec Finn, Johnny McDonagh, Eleanor Shanley, Mick Conneely, Derek Hickey, Brian McGrath)/The London Lasses and Pete Quinn/ Tony DeMarco/ Peter McAlinden (album launch) and many more tbc.
